Hilton Head

Got home on Thursday night from Charleston.

We went down to Hilton Head and stayed at a beautiful resort. We had a view of the ocean and swimming pool and lots of lagoons. The ocean was a bit too cool to swim in but the weather was perfect. 75 and sunny with a little breeze coming of the ocean. Hilton Head has lots of bike paths which were nice until I had a major upset (:

I relaxed and just enjoyed life. What could be better :)

Hilton Head will be on a list of places I will go back to

Ok, here's my post on the blog...

Wow! It's already been a week. Oh how time flew! It was such a great time, I can't wait to meet all of you again. Ok, let me start off with all the books I happened to swap...

Thanks for a great swap everyone... and some pictures..

On Saturday we had a little cross word puzzle... I got a 'good 4 u' from Cherie after we all finished it. :-D

Oh and some wild releasing with Nou, Cherie, and Sci...

Some additional Reverse Scavenger Hunt Photos

An additional picture to go along with Nou's Reverse Scavenger 2: Somewhere Representative of Charleston release.

My "Somewhere Literary" release. If you look closely, or view the full-size, you can see the book Walden tucked into the tree. (Unfortunately I forgot to register that one. *blush*)

Additional photos for me and Nou's "Somewhere Wet" release. Here Turtle is preparing to leave the books.

My book is A Yellow Raft in Blue Water. Nou's post for her release can be found here

a wider view... quite pretty. :)

Before we even left the scene, this guy had grabbed our books. I caught a picture of him walking off with them. You can see the plastic bag in his left hand, and the back of my book A Yellow Raft in Blue Water

Supplement to Nou's Somewhere Pink Release. As we were walking away, I turned around to snap a picture of a woman who'd sat down & picked up one of the books already.

Pics for Nou's Somewhere near a flag release. This is closer up but didn't quite show the flags...

...so instead I got a wide-angle view as well.

My "Somewhere especially Charlestonian" release was done at the Historic Charleston Foundation Headquarters.

A closer up of the book I left there.

Supplemental picture to me and Nou's Somewhere by a Cannon releases. My release was Wild Fire by Nelson Demille on the left.

My "Somewhere Cold" release was done Saturday night after our swap dinner at Sticky Fingers. I left On Thin Ice by Cherry Adair on this bench in front of Maggie Moo's Ice Cream Parlour.

A few photos from Saturday...

Here's a few more photos from Saturday which aren't particularly release-related (those to follow in a separate post).

Subject: New BookCrossing journal entry for The Partner!

Someone has made a new journal entry on one of your books at

BookCrossing.com! We've displayed the entry below, but you can read all the

entries at http://bookcrossing.com/journal/4994932 anytime.

Book Title: The Partner

Author:     John Grisham

There was a group of book people in the hotel while we were here for a

visit.  I somehow don't think they were librarians.  I picked this up to

read when I found it by the elevator.  The book I brought was really crummy

and Grisham is pretty reliable.  I left it in the hotel when we left to go

back to Nova Scotia.

Extra discounts on the books we bought at Blue Bicycle Books

As I was adding the prices I paid for the 3 books I got from Blue Bicycle into my Book Collector software, I noticed that she made a mistake in my favor ringing them up.

Rather than just taking 10% off at the end, she took 10% off each subtotal. So first she rang in $3.50, hit the 10% off, which deducted 0.35, then she rang in another $3.50, and took another 10% off that subtotal (6.65) for another 0.67 off. (Subtotal now at 5.98.) Finally she rang in my last book, which was $5.98, and took yet another 10% off for $1.20. So the total before tax came to $10.76 when it should've actually been $11.68. w00t w00t!!

Live Swap books I got...

Okay, I've finally gotten myself organized enough to post the books I received in our Saturday night swaps. :D

· The Last of the Red-Hot Vampires by Katie MacAlister (offered by noumena)
· Carlisle Street by T. M. Wright (offered by SciFisstrs)
· In the Event of My Death by Carlene Thompson (offered by SciFisstrs)
· Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evie by Marianne Stillings (offered by azuki)
· Daughter of the Game by Tracy Grant (offered by azuki)

Wheeeeeee!

I got a PM from bookczuk - apparently I won one of the raffle prizes!!! I guess the drawing was done at the Sunday breakfast (which I missed, being laid up that morning with that horrendous migraine) and they posted a list somewhere that I never saw...and I guess no one opted to tell me when I showed up later that morning.

I won the doggie basket, which is the one I put two of my three tickets in for. :)

Links are fixed

I went on to view my entry of the books that I listed. And found that the links didn't work. D'uh I didn't put a slash between journal and the number. Than after I fixed it I still couldn't get it going. D'uh again. I forgot to hit publish. LOL!
All fixed now :D

I took this for Sunny, who wasn't sure who Fabio was!!

This book was left on the book buffet table!

I believe this is St. Philip's??

Argh!! Breeni the pirate!

A look down a cobblestone street.

Bolts

One morning on the hotel TV, there was something about the buildings getting these big bolts installed to help hold them together.

And we saw one! (Along with my finger - oops!)

A house that I just thought was neat. :)

Cemetaries and more!

I was fascinated with the old cemetaries and probably could have spent all day there if Ap and Breeni hadn't pulled me away.

A really old stone that looked kinda cool.

Breeni and Ap taking it all in.

The circular church that we found to be quite interesting.

One of the oldest stones I could find. It's dated 1752.

Can't remember the year on this one, but thought with the broken stone and the light filtering down that it looked really cool.

Queen Street in downtown Charleston. I sent this pic to my gay boyfriend Jordan to let him know I was thinking about him. LOL

More pics!!

I got the pictures from my phone transferred so I will finally be able to post them.
Considering these are from a camera phone, they came out pretty darn good!

First up...
The South Bend Grill where me, Cherie, Breeni, and Ap ate our late dinner.

Here is the loverly drawing Ap did on the table. :)

A caught wild release on my last day

On our way back to the airport, Crystal, Mike, and I stopped at a good restaurant in Mt. Pleasant whose name I can't remember, and I left the hardcover book, America: A Patriotic Primer, which has already been picked up and journaled. w00t w00t!!

Unfortunately, I forgot to make a release note on it before releasing it, as this would be my first truly in-the-wild release that's been journaled. And only a day after it was picked up no less! :D

I'd have probably noticed the omission tomorrow as I'm reserving the entire day for going through and getting all that organized, making sure I've accounted for all the books I've left and the ones I've picked up.

Books from Swap and Book Table

From Swap
1st book was The Men's Guide to the Women's Bathroom by Jo Barrett from EllyMae58
2nd was Forty Words for Sorrow by Giles Blunt from HoserLauren
3. The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett from HoserLauren
4. for one more day by Mitch Albom from AceofHearts
5. Even Vampires Get the Blues by Katie MacAlister from Azuki

The Ninth Life of Louis Drax by Liz Jensen

Lost Girls by Andrew Pyper
Light Snow by Anita Shreve

And than noumena gave me 2 books

I also bought myself Fiddle Dee Death by Carolina Cousins

I miss everyone already! I think most of my pictures are scenery, so I won't bore everyone with more of them.

Books Received at Swap

Okay here they are:

For myself -
Fight Club by Chuch Palahniuk
Tithe by Holly Black
The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls
First They Killed My Father - Loung Ung
Amanda's Wedding by Jenny Colgan

For Macaufan -
Murder in the Hamptons - Amy Garvey (Mike's reading it already!)
How to Kill Your Husband - Kathy Lette
Bread Giver - Anzia Yezierska
The Woman Warrior - Maxine Hong Kingston
Practical Demonkeeping by Christopher Moore

Thanks Apolonia for helping me found the missing one! I passed Amanda's Wedding on to Nuomena right at the restuarant so never did get to journal it.

I'm FINALLY home!!

Finally made it home Tuesday afternoon! I just can't help being last, can I? LOL Got bumped from my flight last night in exchange for a $400 travel voucher. So now ApObsessapalooza is a definite go for me as my ticket plus another trip or two is all paid for! bananadance2

Fortunately, I made friends with another girl who was on my flight so we decided to let them bump us together. In addition to the $400 travel voucher, we had a delicious Yuck airport dinner in the Atlanta Airport and stayed at a "no less than a 3 star hotel" (yeah right!) but hey... at least I got in one more night of partying, and contributing to the delinquincy of others! Winking 4 Some of you will know what I mean! LOL

All in all, I probably got no more than 8-10 hours sleep during over the last 6 days so I need to go lie down for a bit.

Well...

Now that my books have been registered/journalled, and the pics are posted (priorities, priorities) I guess it's time to unpack the suitcases and do laundry.

After looking at all the pictures, I still find it hard to believe that I am back at home.

Our farewell dinner at Poogan's Porch.

A trip to downtown Charleston on the last day of the convention.

Saturday night live swap at Sticky Fingers.

First Day of Convention

The Many Faces of CheriePie

Not on the run anymore...

Thanks for the great pic of Mike (he's Macuafan) with his book!!

Okay so we are home. And we have fewer books that we started out with, a good accomplishment.
On Monday I was hoping to go with Cherie to the plantation but silly me forgot to set the cellphone back to normal after dinner at Poogan's Porch. So I missed her call and she was stuck at the hotel all morning. SORRY!!!! :whack: :whack:

Here's the picture of Breeni attacking the alligator with gusto.

A very nice photo of Matt and Scott.

A lovely view at the Magnolia Plantation.

Check it out!

One of the books I brought to convention was wild released by another BookCrosser, and then picked up by Mary Whyte!

Whippoorwill

Book Stats

I took a huge box of books to the convention, but only brought home a total of 16.

  • 1 RABCK wish list book from CheriePie

  • 1 wish list book purchased at Blue Bicycle Books

  • 3 wish list books found on the Book Buffet tables

  • 1 book for wild release found on the Book Buffet tables

  • 1 book for wild release purchased at Blue Bicycle Books

  • 2 wish list books for other BookCrossers

  • 1 book from the live swap

  • 6 other misc. books that just looked good!
  • I'm home!

    Finally.

First, the airline changed my seat when I flew out of Charlotte, so I had to sit next to the exit. I hate sitting next to the exit. :( Coming into Denver, the airport wasn't letting any planes come in because of bad thunderstorms. So we had to be in a "holding pattern" for close to 45 minutes. It was over 4 hours I was on that damn plane. Luckily, I still had plenty of time to catch my connecting flight, although the gate was changed 3 times. It was kind of neat though, to see the lightning from up inside the plane.

Both me and my luggage finally made it to San Diego. I slept practically the whole way on that leg of my trip, so I don't really know how that flight went. Just glad to finally be off the plane.

I still have lots of pictures to share here, and I hope to get them all posted tomorrow. Right now, I think it's time to go to bed, since my body still thinks I'm on South Carolina time!

It was so much fun meeting everyone!!! Can't wait for Obsessapalooza to do it all again!

Highlights of the Convention for me

I had a great time on my 1st bookcrossing convention. I met some wonderful people and met up with my extended family which I felt at home :) and saw some of Charleston too. I even got a little sun burned LOL! I like going on that book hunt with Ann and Cherie. Saw and talked with the new CEO for bookcrossing. I even got to see Ron Hornbaker. Even though he was via webcam it was still nice to see him talk other than just seeing a picture of him.
This was from the meet and greet thing on Friday. Even though Lauren is sitting and our noumena's computer, this is where I found Ann and Cherie all night ;)

One of my favorite mother and daughter teams, Dana and Lauren :D That is all of their books in front there. And that was just the 1st night LOL!

Here we are waiting outside of hotel for that ever so busy taxi on Sat. to take us to town to do a little sightseeing while releasing Ann's books for the reverse scavenger hunt.

Here is another angle of the Rooftop Library

Who are those pretty ladies? Well it's Kelly (Ellymae) and me From our Swap dinner

We tried to get the whole group together. But we were too late. Here is CheriePie, Apolina, Breeni, Ellymae, and Turtle

I tried to get a better picture but the lighting was real dark. But anyway Meg Herndon and Gail Greer,"Carolina Cousins", Cousin Nancy Pate wasn't there. They talked about their books and where the ideas come from etc. It was the first author that I've met outside of our own WOM's (Susan). They signed their book for me. So that was a real nice ending to the convention.

    Another from Kel's phone...

4+ hours from CLT to DEN! I am pooped. Waiting 4 next flight now. Will get home eventually. *sigh* Hope bags do!
